Lacrosse Drops Visit to No. 3 Northwestern

Martel posts six first-quarter saves; Martinsen scores twice to clear 30 in her career
EVANSTON, Ill. — Central Michigan Lacrosse fell, 27-3, to the reigning national champion No. 3 Northwestern Sunday afternoon at Ryan Fieldhouse.

The Chippewas were able to slow the Wildcats early on with six of Alexa Martel's (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) eight saves for the day.

Reagan Martinsen (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) responded to a 5-0 start for Northwestern in the first quarter with the first of her two goals on the day with 3:59 remaining. Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) marked her first career assist after her first start came against Canisius (Feb. 24) and first goal at Vanderbilt (Feb. 17).

Central Michigan struck twice in the third quarter: Martinsen's second goal, assisted by Makenna Huhn (Parker, Colo. / Chaparral), came with 10:41 left, Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) notched her team-leading 12th of the season at 6:23 with a feed from Sadie Hinkle (Medina, Ohio / Medina).

Chippewa Lacrosse will have five days to prepare for the last of its three-game stretch of ranked opponents at No. 6 Michigan Saturday (March 9). CMU returns home to host Lindenwood (March 15) and Detroit Mercy (March 17)—the Mid-American opener—following the trip to Ann Arbor.
