Softball Drops Final Against Ohio

Central Michigan Softball dropped the final game of the series to the Ohio Bobcats. The Chippewas will next host Toledo on Tuesday.
ATHENS, Ohio. – A hot start to the game for the Central Michigan Chippewas would not be enough to pull thorugh a win in the series finale with the Ohio Bobcats. CMU drops to 6-21 on the season, 3-3 in MAC play while Ohio shifts to 15-18 and 2-5 in MAC play.
To start the game, Abbey Tolmie reached on an error by the center fielder that placed her on second base. Michaleigh Vallimont executed a picture-perfect sacrifice fly to the right fielder, advancing A. Tolmie to third. Carly Sleeman singled up the middle and scored A. Tolmie; 1-0 Chippewas. Allyssa Hollo doubled to the right field, Sleeman crossed home and CMU led 2-0 halfway through the first.
The Chippewas would not score again until the top of the 7th inning.

Ohio answered in the half of the inning when a leadoff single was pushed around to score. The Bobcats would add one more run in the second and three more in the third to grab a 5-2 lead. Grace Lehto who took the start for CMU was pulled in the third after giving up her second homerun of the day. Mackenzie Langan would enter in relief to grab the final out of the inning.

Langan threw two innings for the Chippewas before Cierra Laska entered in relief for her in the fifth inning. Langan allowed four hits and two runs for the Bobcats, while Laska allowed none of either and struck out one.

The Chippewas final run came in the top of the 7th inning. Angela Petrovitch, who pinch hit for Tailynn Knapp reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and advanced to second. She was driven home when Lucy Cronin grabbed her second hit of the day with an RBI single through the left side.

Momentum favored CMU in the inning, but they were unable to complete the comeback.

Central Michigan will next host MAC opponent Toledo at Margo Jonker Stadium on Tuesday, April 2nd at 1 p.m. for a mid-week double header.
