TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts jumped to a 6-1 lead through four innings and finished with 18 hits on Wednesday in handing Central Michigan a 10-7 loss in a nonconference baseball game at the Golden Eagles' J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Chippewas begin Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Kent State. The Chippewas and Golden Flashes open the series on Friday (1 p.m.).
CMU is 3-11 after playing a rugged pre-MAC schedule that included series at 24th-ranked Dallas Baptist, Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts, three teams that played in the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Golden Eagles (6-7) reached the College World Series in 2023. Kent State is 4-8.
Ely Stuart homered, his first of the season, to highlight an eight-hit CMU attack. Jake Brill, Jacob Donahue and Bryson Webb finished with two hits apiece.
CMU got a pair of bases-loaded walks, an RBI bunt single from Webb, and a sacrifice fly from Donahue in drawing to 6-5 with a four-run fifth.
But Oral Robert answered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs, highlighted by a two-run homer, to re-up its lead to 9-5.
Stuart's homer, a two-run shot, came in the eighth.
CMU starter Ben Vitas (0-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits over three innings in taking the loss.
Jonah Milchuck, Bryce Hellgeth, Trey Miller and Jake Brown pitched in relief.
