Chippewas Drop Final at Kent State

KENT, Ohio.—Kent State took an early lead with a seven-run second inning then added six more runs over the next two innings as it coasted to a 17-2 decision over the Central Michigan Baseball team Saturday afternoon at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.
Next up for Central Michigan, the Chippewas will travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami (OH) in a three-game series on Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m.).
Kent State scored its 17 runs on 13 hits and 10 walks. Leading Kent State on offense was Jake Casey, who drove in four runs on three hits with a two-run home run, and Josh Johnson, who added three hits for the Golden Flashes. Nine Golden Flashes drove in runs. On the mound, Calvin Bickerstaff earned the victory after striking out five batters and allowing three hits and one run in 5.0 innings of action. Claran Caughy (1 2/3 innings) and Alex Alberico (1/3 innings) closed out the game.
Kent State scored seven runs on two hits in the third inning. After B. Williams walked with one out, J. Casey hit a two-run home run to center field. With two outs, the Golden Flashes loaded the bases when K. Jackson drew a walk, J. Johnson doubled, and Orr walked. M. McNamara and Kibler both drew bases loaded walks, Orr scored on a wild pitch, McNamara scored on another wild pitch and Kibler scored on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead.
They added two runs in the third inning on Johnson's RBI single and Orr's sacrifice fly and put the game out of reach with four more runs in the fourth to go up 13-0.
Central Michigan used six pitchers in the game. Starter Trey Miller took the loss after allowing six runs, five walks and two hits on 1 1/3 innings.
Five Chippewas registered one hit apiece, led by Danny Wuestenfeld, who scored two runs on one hit.
The Chippewas got on the board in the fifth inning on Ely Stuart's single to center field that drove Wuestenfeld in from second base. Wuestenfeld reached based on a Kent State error. They added another run in the seventh inning when Wuestenfeld led off with a single and advanced to third when Mikey Murphy doubled to right field. With two outs, Wuestenfeld scored when Stuart reached on an error.
