
Full Team Efforts Lead Softball to Two Mid-Week Wins Over Bowling Green

Central Michigan struck hot in game one and completed the comeback in game two to win their 5th and 6th straight MAC games.
Game 1:
The 9-1 victory for CMU came with defensive errors for the Falcons. Central Michigan charted ten hits to score their nine runs, as Bowling Green committed five defensive errors. In the fifth inning, CMU added four runs as BGSU committed three errors in the field. Seven Chippewas recorded a hit in the game and Carly Sleeman, Skylar Coberley and Grace Koenig each recorded two.
In the second inning, an RBI single from Allyssa Hollo started the scoring as she drove in Coberley. Koenig followed that up recording her first hit of the game with a double to left center, scoring Hollo.
BGSU scored their lone run of the game with a home run in the fourth inning.
Keira Tolmie doubled in the fifth inning to start the scoring. Her double brought home her sister Abbey Tolmie and Angela Petrovitch who entered as a pinch runner. When Michaleigh Vallimont reached on an error by the Falcon second baseman, Sleeman and K. Tolmie came home for the third and fourth runs of the inning.
In the sixth, Grace Koenig hit her first career home run with a slash to left center, 7-1 Chippewas.
The final two runs came in the top of the 7th when Coberley doubled scoring Sleeman and with a sacrifice fly from Hollo to score Coberley.
Grace Lehto, reigning Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week, threw the complete game, her third in as many appearances. The senior issued nine hits, but only allowed one run. In the outing, Lehto seven.
Game 2:
Mackenzie Langan made her third career start for the Chippewas in the nightcap, going four innings, issuing just three hits and striking out three.
The bats continued hot into the second game for CMU, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Another sacrifice fly from Allyssa Hollo scored Abbey Tolmie who led the game off with an infield single. A Grace Koenig single then pushed across Carly Sleeman who reached with a single of her own.
In the second inning, a sacrifice fly from Keira Tolmie allowed Emma Lotus to score. That would be the end of the scoring for CMU until they rallied in the 7th inning.
Bowling Green's designated player hit her second home run of the day, a two run bomb in the second to cut the Chippewa lead to one run at 3-2.
In the fifth inning, Madelyn Wallace entered to pitch in relief for Langan. Wallace would allow six hits and four runs in her .2 innings pitched. At the end of the fifth inning, Bowling Green led the Chippewas 6-3.
Cierra Laska entered to relive Wallace in the fifth and would throw until the seventh inning. Laska faced six batters, allowing no hits and no runs.
The seventh inning came, and the Falcon fans were reminded to never count the Chippewas out. Entering trailing 6-3 in the inning, CMU had not trailed in an game in 30 innings. Central Michigan accepted the challenge.
Abbey Tolmie at the top of the order started the inning, a five-pitch walk put her on first base. Her younger sister Keira Tolmie fouled out to left field to record the first out. Carly Sleeman singled to the third baseman to put runners on first and second. A walk from Skylar Coberley loaded the bases with just one down.
Another walk in the inning, this time drawn by Allyssa Hollo put CMU back in the scoring column, 4-6 Falcons. A pitching change for BGSU would immediately get the second out of the inning with a strikeout issued to Grace Koenig; CMU trails 4-6 with one out left.
Freshman Emma Lotus grabbed her second hit of the day with a 2 RBI single up the middle scoring Coberley and Sleeman to tie the game. Maddie Springer followed that up with a clutch double to left center that scored Emma Lotus and Bryn Elsenpeter, who entered as a pinch runner, making the score 8-6 in favor of the Chippewas.
Grace Lehto entered the second game to close it out in the 7th. Bowling Green would manufacture a single run, but Lehto and the defense held them there to secure the 8-7 victory.
Looking Ahead:
Over the weekend, the Chippewas will return home to face conference-leading Miami (OH). The Chippewas will entertain the RedHawks for three games with a double header at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the series finale at 1 p.m on Sunday.
In the three games, CMU will celebrate "Think Pink Weekend!" with Saturday being the annual Strikeout Cancer game and the alumni game as Sunday will serve as "Barbie Day". Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink both days and support the Chippewas back at Margo Jonker Stadium.
