Another double-digit save performance for the junior goalie, another hat trick for the junior attacker led to a crucial, 16-7, victory over previously-undefeated Eastern Michigan Sunday
CLEVELAND — Juniors Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) and Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) of Central Michigan Lacrosse combined to sweep the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon, marking the fourth defensive selection for Martel in 2024, the second offensive nod for DePrado.
Â
The Chippewas remain undefeated atop the MAC standings after a dominant, 16-7, victory at Eastern Michigan Sunday to take sole possession of the top spot in the conference standings with two weeks to go. Martel claimed 14 saves against the Eagles with eight in the second half to hold onto CMU's commanding second-half lead; DePrado notched four goals for her fifth straight hat trick and improve her team-leading mark to 31 goals on the season.
Â
Martel stands as the NCAA I leader in total saves (167) this season, encroaching on her own program record for saves in a single season (175), set last season. She has also extended her Central Michigan record outright for most Player of the Week distinctions at the conference level with her sixth career selection Tuesday.
Â
The two Chippewas combine for six MAC Player of the Week honors this season. Martel has earned the defensive award four times: March 5, March 19 and April 9 along with Tuesday's announcement. DePrado won her first of the season following the opening week of play, where she notched six goals at Butler (February 13).
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse hosts Akron Sunday, April 21 for the home regular season finale with a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed, and host responsibilities, in the upcoming 2024 MAC Championship tournament (May 2-4). The 2024 regular season concludes at Kent State April 27.
