The 2024 regular season concluded with a 15-9 loss at Kent State Saturday, Robert Morris defeats Eastern Michigan to leave Chippewas alone atop final MAC regular season standings
KENT, Ohio — Central Michigan Lacrosse finished as the 2024 Mid-American Conference regular season champion Saturday afternoon just prior to the final whistle of a 15-9 loss at Kent State. In the final moments at Dix Stadium in Ohio, Robert Morris held on for a 12-10 victory over Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., sealing the league title for the Chippewas.
Junior Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) became the second goalie in program history to clear 400 saves in her career with her 13th double-digit performance in the category this season (10), now just 14 saves from tying the program record of 423.
Amanda Hilderbrandt (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) and Makenna Huhn (Parker, Colo. / Chaparral) each marked new career milestones in the contest. Hilderbrandt's three assists put her in a tie with Tyra Prince '21 for fifth all-time with 44 career assists; Huhn's three draw controls reached 100 for her career, tied for sixth with the program's assistant coach Brennan Paddy '22.
CMU collected a pair of goals each from Sandy Edwards (Stuart, Fla. / Jensen Beach), Sadie Hinkle (Medina, Ohio / Medina) and Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) against Kent State. This trio led the way for the Chippewas in goals for the conference slate as Edwards and DePrado each scored 16 times across the six league games while Hinkle found the back of the net 13 times.
The Chippewas collected the program's first outright regular season MAC title Saturday, and second season with at least a share (2022) since the conference began sponsoring a women's lacrosse championship in 2021. Next week's conference tournament represents the program's opportunity for a third straight MAC Tournament Championship.
Central Michigan Lacrosse will host Detroit Mercy for the first of two MAC Championship semifinal matches Thursday afternoon, a 1 p.m. first draw. Robert Morris and Eastern Michigan will battle for a second time in five days as the second and third seeds, respectively, in the latter semifinal in Mount Pleasant at 4 p.m.
