Baseball Drops Series Opener at Ball State, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan bats fell quiet on Friday as the Chippewas fell to Ball State, 6-1, in the opener of a three-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Cardinals' First Merchants Ballpark.
The teams continue their series on Saturday (1:45 p.m.).
The Chippewas managed just four hits and struck out 16 times on Friday. Ball State starter Merritt Beeker (7-3), the MAC strikeout leader, recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed three hits over seven innings.
CMU got its run in the first inning when leadoff hitter Nick Dardas reached on an error and then scored on another error.
Danny Wuestenfeld singled and doubled to lead the Chippewas at the plate.
CMU starter Ben Vitas (2-6) allowed nine hits, struck out four, and walked three in tossing his second complete game of the season.
