The Central Michigan Chippewas won game one of the series with Ball State and fell in the second game.
On Friday, Central Michigan clinched a spot in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament when Kent State and Akron split their series on day one.
Game One
The Chippewa bats started hot in game one with a three run first inning. Allyssa Hollo started the scoring with an RBI double to left field. Abbey Tolmie who led the bottom half of the inning off with a four-pitch walked, scored on the double. Michaleigh Vallimont hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which drove home Carly Sleeman, who reached on a base hit of her own. The third run of the inning came when Keira Tolmie double to right center, and Hollo crossed the dish.
Those three runs would be the end of the scoring for CMU until the fourth inning when a bases loaded walk drawn by Sleeman allowed Grace Koenig to cross the plate.
Ball State scored a run in the third, fifth and sixth innings and threatened with bases loaded and no outs in the seventh. The final threat by the Cardinals was shut down by freshman right-handed pitcher, Brooklyn Compau. Compau entered with runners on second and third and no outs in the top of the seventh, relieving Cierra Laska. A four pitch walk against the first batter Compau faced, loaded the bases.
Three strikeouts in a row for the freshman would close the game and give CMU the victory. Compau recorded the save in the outing, her first of her career, and Grace Lehto who started the game charted the win. Cierra Laska relieved Lehto in the sixth inning, facing three batters.
Game Two
A five-inning perfect game for Francys King of Ball State would end the game for CMU in the fifth inning.
Ball State scored their eight runs in the first, second and fourth innings. A solo homerun in the first, an RBI single in the second and then six runs in the fourth would be the total for the game.
Four pitchers threw for the Chippewas in the second game. Mackenzie Langan who started the game, and took the loss, faced six batters and allowed the homerun and walked two batters.
