CMU Announces MAC Men's Basketball Schedule

League announces 18-game men’s basketball conference schedule; MAC schedule features two games apiece against Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Ohio.
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Featuring an 18-game conference schedule, the Mid-American Conference announced Central Michigan Men's Basketball league schedule on Wednesday morning. In the upcoming 2024-25 season, CMU will play two games apiece against Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, and rival Western Michigan.
Central Michigan will announce its entire 31-game schedule, including complete non conference slate (November through December) at a later date. Television and broadcast dates will be announced later as well and the schedule and dates are subject to change due to television decisions.
"We are excited to start practice in preparation for the season," Central Michigan Head Coach Tony Barbee said. "We have several players returning but have also added a variety of talented newcomers to the roster. I am excited for our fans to watch this team in action."
As year four of the Barbee Era begins, Central Michigan will open MAC play on Saturday, Jan. 4 when the Chippewas host Ohio at McGuirk Arena. Other home league games include contests vs. Eastern Michigan (Saturday, Jan. 14), Ball State (Tuesday, Jan. 21), Western Michigan (Saturday, Jan. 25), Bowling Green (Saturday, Feb. 1), Miami (OH) (Tuesday, Feb. 4), Akron (Saturday, Feb. 15), Buffalo (Tuesday, Feb. 25), and Northern Illinois (Friday, March 7).
Scheduled road MAC games are at Akron (Tuesday, Jan. 7), at Toledo (Saturday, Jan. 11), at Northern Illinois (Saturday, Jan. 18), at Buffalo (Tuesday, Jan. 28), at Kent State (Tuesday, Feb. 11), at Ohio (Tuesday, Feb. 18), at Western Michigan (Saturday, Feb. 22), at Eastern Michigan (Saturday, March 1), and at Ball State (Tuesday, March 4).
CMU has announced five non conference games. The Chippewas will travel to Mobile, Ala. to play South Alabama as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Monday, Nov. 4. CMU will also compete in the three-game Marquette Challenge (Nov. 7-13) where it will host Stony Brook (Thursday, Nov. 7), travel to Marquette (Monday, Nov. 11), and travel to George Mason (Wednesday, Nov. 13). As part of the MAC-SBC Challenge, the Chippewas will play a road game at a Sun Belt Conference school on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The 2025 MAC Men's Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 13-15 in Cleveland, Ohio at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Central Michigan is coming of a 2023-24 season that saw it finish 12-6 in MAC play, its best league record since the 2014-15 season. The Chippewas also went 18-14 overall, its best season since 2018-19. Barbee became the fifth CMU mentor and first in nearly a decade to earn the MAC Coach of the Year Award. He was also named the National Association of Basketball Coaches District Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year. Returning guard Anthony Pritchard established himself as one of the league's top talents, earning the MAC Defensive Player of the Year Award while being named to the all-conference first team and NABC All-District team.
