Zanatta Leads Second-Round Improvement for Women's Golf

Chippewas 11th after Day 1 at Nittany Lion Invitational
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Ella Zanatta shot a 1-under par 71 in the second round on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team in the Nittany Lion Invitational on the Penn State Blue Course.
Zanatta opened with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 13th in the 83-player field with a 147 total.
The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled for Sunday (8:30 a.m. shotgun start).
The Chippewas opened with a first-round 314 team score and then improved by 17 shots with a second-round 297. Their 36-hole 611 total is good for 11th place in the 14-team field.
All five CMU players competing in the tournament improved their scores from the first round to the second.
CMU's Hailey Katona shot 77-74 – 151; Rachel Niskanen came in at 79-73 – 152; Lauren Davis posted 82-79 – 161; and Lexi Schulman carded 87-80 – 167.
Katona is tied for 34th, Niskanen is tied for 39th, Davis is tied for 73rd, and Schulman is tied for 79th.
Catherine Rao of Princeton shot an opening-round 5-under 67 and then followed with a 2-under 70 for a 7-under 137 total. She leads the tournament by six shots over teammate Abra Richmond (72-71 – 143), who is at 1-under.
Rao led the Tigers to a pair of 289s for a 578 total. Delaware (281-296 – 581) is second, three shots back.
