Seven Chippewas achieve personal-bests in Friday opener of two-day meet
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Central Michigan Track and Field got the weekend momentum going on Friday in the first of the two-day Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center.
Senior thrower Emily McLean highlighted the day for CMU in the shot put, launching a personal-best 14.18m mark to place fifth in the event. McLean currently stands at 10th in the CMU Indoor Track and Field All-Time Top 10 in the event, but has moved up significantly from her previous personal best of 14.05m.
Joining McLean in the shot put were Amyah Chosa (12th), Ereka Risner (15th) and Gracie Merrick (16th) . Risner and Merrick will compete in the weight throw on Saturday.
Riley Kerr rounded out the Friday field events in the evening, taking 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.56m.
Senior Kaitlynn Rush led the Chippewa sprinters, placing 8th In the 60m preliminaries and 6th in the 200m with a personal-best 25.18. Rush will compete in the 60m semifinals on Saturday.
Sprinters Sky Austin, Mireya Benjamin and Dior Newson each competed in both events alongside Sophia Garland, who ran a personal-best in the 200m. Austin and Newson ran a personal-best time in both races.
The Chippewa distance medley relay team of Chesney Wilke, Robyn Watts Lois Creasey and Olivia East placed 8th in an 11-team field, besting out Ball State and Western Michigan with a time of 11:52.65.
Libby Munderloh ran a personal-best 1:37.74 in the women's 600m, placing 16th.
Joanna Kelley, Nikki Carothers and Ava Teed closed the evening in the women's 5000m, where they finished 31st, 37th and 38th, respectively.
CMU Men's Cross Country additionally competed in the men's 5000m. Ethan Leitner ran a personal-best 14:43.54 to finish 30th and senior Carson White placed 43rd.
The Chippewas have a jam-packed slate ahead on Saturday, with registrations in the weight throw, pole vault, women's open 3000m, women's 800m, women's 60m semifinals, women's 400m, women's mile and women's 3000m.
