Rejment Charts Fifth-Straight Double-Double as Volleyball Defeats Kent State

Natalia Rejment and Grace Thomas led the Central Michigan offense in a Mid-American Conference victory on Friday night against the Golden Flashes.
KENT, Ohio – The Central Michigan Volleyball team collected a fourth consecutive win with a 3-1 victory over Kent State. The Chippewas reach the .500 mark in MAC play, moving to 8-14 overall, and 5-5 in the conference. The Golden Flashes shift to 8-13 and 3-7 in the conference.
CMU and Kent State will face off again for a rematch on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the MAC Center in Kent, Ohio.
The Chippewas won the first set 23-25, dominated 25-12 in the second, dropped the close 21-25 battle in set three, but rallied with a 25-18 win to take the match.
The Chippewas found themselves down 0-3 to start the first set, but eventually battled to take the 6-5 lead.
The media timeout was called when CMU reached the 15-point marker first, with a 15-12 lead over the Golden Flashes.
Grace Thomas killed her fourth ball of the evening off the slide and tied the set at 20, a back row kill from Rejment and an overpass kill from Brooklyn Conner forced a timeout from Kent State; 22-20 CMU.
A service error from Kent State set up set point for Central Michigan, and an overpass set from a Golden Flash ended set one in favor of CMU. Central Michigan aced Kent State five times in the first set.
To start the second set, Alina Anderson made her return to the floor after being out since September 26th against Western Michigan due to injury.
Central Michigan grabbed a 10-6 lead, forcing a timeout for Kent State. After an 8-4 run, the second timeout was called by the Golden Flashes.
The Chippewas held as much as a 13-point lead in the second set and grabbed their second win of the evening with that lead, 25-12.
In the second set, Central Michigan .385 and held the Golden Flashes to a -.129. Grace Thomas totaled five blocks as the Chippewas head into the third set, and Rejment entered with 10 total points.
The first point of the third set for CMU came from Muell with a setter dump, her third kill of the night in that fashion.
Head Coach Arielle Wilson called her first timeout of the match in the third set, as Kent State held a 7-4 lead over the Chippewas.
Molly Beatty entered in set three to set for Central Michigan, and CMU went 2-2 right off the bat with the freshman in the driver seat. Another timeout was called by Coach Wilson as the Chippewas trailed 8-14.
CMU eventually battled back to 17-20 and forced a timeout from the opponent.
A 5-4 run after that timeout ended the set, and the Chippewas fell 21-25.
Natalia Rejment, the reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week, recorded her fifth-straight double-double with her 10th kill in the set. Rejment entered the fourth set with 14 kills and 10 digs for the Chippewas.
The Golden Flashes were forced to call a timeout as the Chippewas led by six in the fourth set, 14-8.
A timeout was called on the Central Michigan sideline when Kent State was within in five as the Chippewas held a 20-15 lead. Out of the timeout, Kent State committed a service error – a task that led well for the Maroon & Gold throughout the match.
Abby Olin and Grace Thomas combined for the 8th block of the night for Central Michigan and the Chippewas walked away with a four-set win.
The Golden Flashes committed seven service errors through the four sets, and commonly in momentum areas that sent the side-out back to the Chippewas.
Grace Thomas and Natalia Rejment led all scorers with 17 and 12 kills respectively. Thomas hit an incredibly efficient .647 out of the middle, helping the Chippewas reach their .275 hitting percentage as a team. The two combined for nine blocks, Thomas on seven of them. The seven blocks for Thomas grabs her a new four-set career high.
Central Michigan recorded 10 service aces on the night – tying the season high for a four-set match. Three of those aces came from the hands of Rejment, and two from both Thomas and Izzy Swiercz.
Abby Olin recorded a career high 10 digs as well with one block and six kills.
