Perez Ayala Named to MAC All-Freshman Team

CLEVELAND — Jimena Perez Ayala (Monterrey, Mexico / ASF Monterrey) of Central Michigan Soccer was selected for the Mid-American Conference all-freshman team in a vote of the league's coaches announced Friday afternoon.

The rookie scored three goals on the season to lead the Chippewas, all of which came in conference competition and impacted CMU's point total in the league standings.

Perez Ayala scored the first of two goals in the Chippewas' 2-0 result over Eastern Michigan (Oct. 29) to conclude the regular season, the opening goal in a 1-1 draw against Toledo (Sept. 25) and the tying goal via penalty against Kent State (Oct. 16)—CMU's first made penalty, and second attempt, since Oct. 27, 2022.

The program's first representative from Mexico is the Chippewas' first all-freshman selection since Jaelyn Dobrowolski's MAC Freshman of the Year title for the 2020 season, played in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19.

Perez Ayala is the fourth all-freshman honoree under Head Coach Jeremy Groves—Dobrowolski, Lauren DeBeau and Cami Taylor round out the quartet.
