MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A Friday night MAC-tion matchup did not fall in the favor of Central Michigan Volleyball on Halloween night.
The Chippewas fell 0-3 to the Ohio Bobcats. CMU shifts to 9-16 on the season and 6-7 in MAC play. Ohio moves to 10-15 overall and 8-5 in the MAC.
All three sets were within four points either way, but CMU just could not finish and grab a victory in any of them.
The Chippewas fell in the first set, 27-29. Central Michigan trailed 13-8 in the set but went on to take a 14-13 lead with a 5-0 scoring run with Natalia Rejment at the service line. Ohio retook the lead at 15-14, never scoring more than two points in a row before the final three to reach the 27-29 final.
In set two, neither team really took a lead until the Bobcats used a 4-0 run to close it out, taking a 25-21 victory.
CMU looked to answer in the third set and keep their chances of a reverse sweep in order, but the Bobcats took a 25-23 win. The Chippewas trailed 20-24 at one point, but a sideout kill from Rejment gave Grace Thomas the ball at the line where she served against two match-points.
The Chippewas it .228 as a team with 37 kills. Rejment led the team with 10 kills and 8 digs. Alina Anderson, who returned as the solo libero for CMU led all players with 15 digs. The Chippewas did not record a single ace on the evening, while the Bobcats charted five.
Brooklyn Conner charted a new career high with seven blocks in three sets, tying her all-time high. Taylor Cripe rejected four at the net as well for the Chippewas.
The Chippewas will return to McGuirk Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday to take on the Bobcats once again.
