White-Out/Toilet Paper Toss Men’s Basketball Game scheduled for Saturday, January 31 at 7 p.m. versus Bowling Green.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—In celebration of its time-honored tradition, Central Michigan University will host a Toilet Paper Toss game for the fourth consecutive year when it hosts Bowling Green in a men's basketball contest on Saturday, January 31 at McGuirk Arena. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET that night. Meijer will serve as the official game sponsor and will donate the toilet paper.
For this highly anticipated event, tickets are $35 for lower bowl reserved seating, $27 for upper bowl reserved, and $20 for general admission bleacher tickets. For the third consecutive year, limited Upper Club Lounge tickets are available for $85 each, which includes dinner. A cash bar featuring beer, wine, and soft drinks is also available for purchase in the Upper Club Lounge. All tickets are available online at www.cmuchippewas.com, by stopping by Ticket Central, or calling Ticket Central at (989) 774-3045.
Single-game parking passes for Toilet Paper Toss are also on sale in lots 62W and 62E and available for purchase in advance either online at www.cmuchippewas.com, by stopping by Ticket Central or by calling Ticket Central at 989-774-3045. Passes bought in advance will be mailed out if ordered online or over the phone. Free parking is available in Lot 64.
Student tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis through the Rose Hall East Entrance. All students must show their Student Access Pass for entry, student IDs will not be accepted. Details on the Student Access Process are posted at this link. The first 250 student ticket holders will receive a free meal courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings.
As a reminder, McGuirk Arena is a cashless venue (parking, concessions, and ticket purchases).
The game is designated as a "White Out," as fans are encouraged to wear white shirts, and will have the opportunity to participate in the previously nationally known CMU tradition of throwing toilet paper rolls on the playing floor. An exact time for the simultaneous pre-game toss will be announced later. Giveaways will include white pompoms, LED foam sticks, and "Beat Bowling Green" buttons. Meijer will furnish toilet paper for all fans as rolls will be distributed upon entrance. After the throw, all toilet paper will be recycled.
"We are excited to bring this memorable event to our fans," Central Michigan Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "This game has something for everyone. We will rekindle a school tradition that everyone can participate in and host a White-Out. I urge fans to buy their tickets now."
This is the first year Central Michigan will host a Toilet Paper Toss and play an opponent other than Western Michigan. The Chippewas are a perfect 3-0 when hosting the Toilet Paper Toss, with three straight wins over Western Michigan.
The toilet paper toss tradition began at Central Michigan during the 1982-83 basketball season with the first event occurring in early February 1983. The fad was short-lived but was brought back in 1986 by the athletic department. An iconic photograph during the Feb. 18, 1987, game against Western Michigan, taken by CMU photographer Peggy Brisbane, was published in People Magazine.
During that time, Central Michigan's student section was known as the Snake Pit. During games, the student group sported maroon t-shirts depicting a snake logo. Legend has it that a rival coach referred to playing a game in the arena as being in a "snake pit" and the name was subsequently adopted by the CMU student section.
