Veteran leadership prevails in fourth-quarter rally; DePrado, Merrill each net a hat trick
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Lacrosse got over the hump in Mid-American Conference play Sunday with a 10-9, comeback victory against Eastern Michigan to remain undefeated against the Eagles through four meetings.
Â
Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) scored three of her game-high four goals in a five-goal streak for the Chippewas in the fourth quarter, tying the game, 8-8, with 5:30 to go and a player short. She added insurance, 10-8, via free position with less than 90 seconds to play.
Â
Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) stood tall for 11 saves. Two of her four stops in the fourth quarter came with a Chippewa sidelined via card; DePrado scored on CMU's next possession in both instances.
Â
Maggie Merrill (Marriotsville, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) kept the Chippewa attack afloat through the first three quarters. She scored twice, assisted DePrado's first, to earn a point from each of CMU's three goals in the first quarter, then posted her first career hat trick less than two minutes into the third to draw the contest back to a one-goal deficit, 6-5, which held for nearly 13 minutes.
Â
Jozy Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) continued her stretch of dominance on the draw, with eight of CMU's 13 controls, two shy of Eastern Michigan's team total, passing Audrey Whiteside '23 for third in career draw controls. She also contributed her caused turnover during the five-goal run and was a key component to the Eagles firing 10 off-target shots through the contest.
Â
Celia Dow (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) marked the final lead change with 3:34 to go with a solo effort from behind the cage, her second of the day, for CMU's first lead since the 8:48 mark in the second. Dow also scored the game-winner in the final seconds at Canisius on March 12.
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse gets two-for-one next weekend as its visit to Western Pennsylvania features Robert Morris (April 5; Noon) in MAC play, then St. Francis (April 7; 2 p.m. ET) before returning to host Youngstown State (April 13; Noon) for Senior Day.
