Chippewas put up 7-1 run to power past the Bulldogs; Allen eclipses 100 draw controls, inches closer to career caused turnover mark
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Lacrosse defeated Buter, 10-8, Wednesday afternoon at the CMU Lacrosse Complex to finish the regular season with a .500 home record (3-3) prior to the season finale at Detroit Mercy (April 27, Noon).
Â
The Chippewas put together a 7-1 scoring run in response to a four-goal deficit after eight minutes, through five different goal-scorers.
Â
Celia Dow (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) led the attack with her first career hat trick, one of the two repeat scorers in the run that lasted from 6:22 in the first quarter to 13:29 in the fourth. Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) was the other repeat scorer in the run.
Â
Jozy Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) became the first player in program history to reach 100 draw controls in a single-season with her fourth double-digit effort of the season. Allen overtook the program's single-season mark against Youngstown State on Sunday.
Â
Allen also forced three takeaways on the Bulldogs, her fifth multi-caused turnover performance in the last six games. The Cincinnati-native stands just five takeaways from surpassing Logan Halvorson's '19 career mark (82).
Â
After reaching 100 career points in Sunday's senior day victory, Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) posted a career-high three assists to be CMU's points leader Wednesday, scoring once as well.
Â
Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) posted her 10th double-digit performance of the season with 11 saves on a 57.9 percent clip, pulling her season save percentage over 50 percent. The reigning MAC Goalkeeper of the Year has posted a save percentage of 55 percent or better of five of her last six outings.
Â
Freshman Isabella Bainbridge (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) collected her first career goal in the fourth quarter. Bainbridge is the first Michigan-native to score a goal for Central Michigan on its home field since April 19, 2023 (Audrey Whiteside '23).
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse holds its own destiny to qualify for the 2025 Mid-American Conference tournament, as a win at Detroit Mercy secures its berth, and at least the bracket's third seed. The Chippewas can become the second seed with a Robert Morris loss to either Kent State (April 19) or league-leader Akron (April 27).
Â
CMU's opportunity to host the 2025 championship event remains as well.
