Mid-Week Battle with Notre Dame Ends in Loss for Softball

Notre Dame scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory over the Chippewas at Melissa Cook Stadium.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Chippewas held the lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Notre Dame rallied to score six runs of their own and take the 8-4 victory over the Chippewas.
Central Michigan moves to 23-20 on the season and Notre Dame shifts to 22-26-1 in their 2025 campaign.
Notre Dame scored in the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line to take the 1-0 lead.
The Chippewas answered with an RBI single from Maddison Diekman – a line drive through the glove of the Fighting Irish third baseman.
Jenna Kuzara led off the fourth inning with a single, and an intended sacrifice bunt from Grace Koenig scored Kuzara after the two caused chaos on the base paths.
A solo home run in the bottom of the inning for Notre Dame evened the score at two.
Central Michigan scored their final two runs in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double from Koenig to score both Kuzara and London Williams, both reaching on walks.
Notre Dame tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run, took the lead at 6-4 with an RBI double, and a bases loaded walk scored their seventh run. An RBI single to second base scored their final run of the game.
Mackenzie Langan took the decision for the Chippewas, throwing five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs across her 25 batters faced. Langan collected two strikeouts in the outing.
Cierra Laska entered in the bottom of the sixth inning in relief, for two outs, before being relieved by Madelyn Wallace, who would face the final out for the Chippewas.
Next, Central Michigan will host Ohio at Margo Jonker Stadium as the two teams battle for first place in the Mid-American Conference.
CMU has claimed a spot in the 2025 Mid-American Conference with their 15-5 record thus far in the season.
The first game with the Bobcats is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25th.
