Grace Koenig hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give CMU an eight-run lead and close Team 47’s chapter at Margo Jonker Stadium.
Central Michigan Softball played its final game of the season at Margo Jonker Stadium and captured an 11-3 run-rule victory over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday afternoon.
Grace Koenig sealed the deal with a walk-off home run in the sixth inning. Madelyn Wallace, the senior pitcher for the Chippewas, threw her fourth complete game of the season, and ended her time at her home stadium with a victory. Wallace struck out five in the outing.
Maddie Springer, Samantha Souva and Allyssa Hollo also played their final game in Mount Pleasant, and all three recorded a hit in the game.
Souva made her first career start against the Titans, playing right field.
The Titans struck first in the top of the first inning with three Titans attacking on the first pitch they saw. An RBI single scored their leadoff batter, but that would be the end of their scoring until the fifth inning.
CMU answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-RBI single from Koenig to score Carly Sleeman and Maddison Diekman. Diekman led the inning off with a four-pitch walk and Sleeman singled.
The third run scored when Koenig was caught in a pickle with Jenna Kuzara on third, and Kuzara scored.
Another run scored in the second when Diekman hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Emma Lotus crossed the plate.
In the fourth inning, Maddie Springer scored on a wild pitch from the Titans pitcher and a sacrifice bunt from Hollo scored Diekman.
In the top half of the fifth, Detroit Mercy scored on a throwing error by the Chippewas.
Runs seven and eight scored for CMU in the fifth when an errant throw from the Titan catcher allowed Koenig to cross the plate, and Souva singled to score Lotus.
Detroit Mercy grabbed their third and final run of the game in an out at second base, that allowed the runner from third to score in a steal.
Chloe Parker led off the sixth inning as a pinch hitter, with a single through the left side, and Hollo plated Parker with a double off the wall.
Koenig's home run ended the game as Hollo crossed the plate as well.
Next up for the Chippewas is a three-game MAC series at Ball State, as the teams fight it out for seeding in the Mid-American Conference Tournament. CMU moves to 25-22 on the season after the victory, and Detroit Mercy falls to 10-30.
