Cartago, Costa Rica junior scores 39.150 in all-around to finish 4th in session
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An evening to remember for Luciana Alvarado-Reid.
The Central Michigan Gymnastics junior competed as an all-arounder in session II of the Tuscaloosa Regional second round on Friday with a score of 39.150, which placed her 4th in a competitive rotation of five all-arounders.
Alvarado-Reid, who hails from Cartago, Costa Rica, has now competed in two NCAA Regionals; one as an uneven bars specialist, and now as an all-arounder. She rotated with Clemson in the meet with Oregon State, NC State and Florida, alongside two individual competitors from Rutgers.
"Lucy was outstanding today," said CMU Head Coach Christine MacDonald. "She has worked so hard all year, and for her to come in tonight and hit all four events was truly impressive."
The junior scored 9.850 on the floor exercise to finish tied for 12th, 9.800 on the uneven bars and balance for a 13th and 23rd place finish, respectively, and 9.700 on vault which tied her for 20th on the event.
Alvarado-Reid earned MAC Gymnast of the Year honors at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships, where the Chippewas earned their third title in four years, and ranked 48th nationally in the all-around with an NQS of 39.230, which led the league. She is a three-time Gymnast of the Week honoree in the 2025 regular season and once earned MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
"We are all so proud of her," MacDonald said. "She was a great representative of CMU and CMU Gymnastics."
The top two teams from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the top all-around competitor and top event specialist from round two at each regional (who is not on a team advancing to nationals) will advance to the national championships. Event specialist qualifiers will only compete in the events they qualified.
The 2025 NCAA women's gymnastics championship will take place from April 17-19 in Fort Worth, TX, at Dickies Arena
