A historic Chippewa softball team dropped their final game of the season at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament to NIU and Akron.
Although the season ended at the MAC Tournament on day one, there were incredible feats that were accomplished by the team, with an incredibly bright future ahead.
The program graduates four seniors, Samantha Souva, Madelyn Wallace, Allyssa Hollo and Maddie Springer.
Those four players played their final softball games on Wednesday but leave behind a legacy that stretches far beyond the stat sheet for CMU Softball.
Central Michigan ends the season with a 26-25 record and posted a 17-8 record in conference play that earned them the #3 seed in the conference tournament.
The Chippewas dropped a hard-fought battle with #6 NIU in the first game of the day, falling 5-6 to the Huskies.
NIU scored first in the second inning, but the Chippewas responded with two in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI single from Emma Lotus that scored Keira Tolmie and Maddison Diekman.
Another run came across for NIU in the third, with an RBI double.
CMU responded once again to retake the lead with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, courtesy of an RBI double from Rachel Cairo.
NIU hit two home runs, to score three runs in the top of the fourth inning, taking the 5-3 lead.
Jenna Kuzara double in the bottom of the fourth, to even the score at five, when Allyssa Hollo and Carly Sleeman scored.
The Huskies grabbed the final run of the game in the eighth inning, ending the game at 6-5 in their favor.
In the second game, the Chippewas scored just one run on one hit. That hit, a historic one.
Carly Sleeman hit her 17th home run of the season which ties the single season program record for CMU Softball.
