Event provides an opportunity for Mount Pleasant community members to meet the Chippewas’ coaches.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Central Michigan Athletics held its annual Mount Pleasant Chamber Meet the Coaches event Tuesday evening in the Chippewa Champions Center VIP Lounge. Hosted by Central Michigan Athletics, the Chippewa Athletics Fund, and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, the event provided those in attendance an opportunity to meet and greet members of the CMU Athletics administration and coaching staff.
Over 60 community members attended the event as pizza and soft drinks were served to attendees.
Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce President Padraic McMeel opened the formal presentation and introduced Central Michigan University President Neil MacKinnon.
"It is part of our culture to support CMU," MacKinnon said. "Athletics is such a big part of our culture and I want to do everything I can to lift that up."
Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan spoke about the importance of the community's support for CMU Athletics.
"We talk about building the best fan experience that we can provide," Folan said. "Our goal is to have everyone in Mount Pleasant and get our 200,000-plus alumns back here for events. We want to be the best in the MAC and to expand upon our rich tradition in athletics."
Central Michigan head football coach Matt Drinkall then spoke to the audience.
"We're going through camp right now with 106 players and they are unbelievable kids," Drinkall said. "We have drastically changed the environment in almost every facet from an operational and procedural way. We are recruiting kids that are a great fit to this community and to this campus, who are coming here for the right reasons and want to graduate from Central Michigan and do things here that make it so great. The more you get to learn about our players and our staff, the more you will see they are genuinely great people. They are people who you want working in your community."
"We are very lucky to be here in this community, thanks for everything you do."
CMU Athletics Deputy Athletics Director Chris Walker served as emcee.
Other CMU coaches who spoke to the crowd included softball coach McCall Salmon, cross country/track & field coach Jenny Swieton, gymnastics assistant Katie Ordway, and wrestling coach Ben Bennett.
