Rulli finds the cage in the final minute for team leading seventh goal
ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Field Hockey bested Central Michigan 2-1 in a rainy matchup highlighted by strong defensive performances on each side of the ball.
A quiet defensive battle gave way to an explosive fourth quarter, which saw all three goals of the game. The Bobcats opened the scoring in the second minute of the final quarter and added their winning goal with 65 seconds remaining.
The Chippewas then stormed down the field once play resumed, leading to an open opportunity for CMU's leading scorer Mora Rulli. Rulli buried the ball with just 49 seconds of game time remaining, it was her seventh goal on the season.
Central Michigan then stormed right back down the field and applied pressure to the final whistle, forcing a review for a penalty corner in the dying seconds. It was determined there was no time remaining, ending the game.
A clean game saw the Bobcats hold the advantage in corner opportunities, 2-0. The Chippewas led in total shots 6-5.
The Chippewas held the ball for the majority of the second half but were disrupted by both the defending Mid-American Conference Goaltender and Defensive players of the week.
Central Michigan will return to action Friday, Oct. 9, to host Longwood at 2 p.m. in Mount Pleasant.
