Track & Field Ends Regular Season with 12 Career Bests and Two Top-10 Additions

Chippewas log 12 personal bests, add two top-10 result ahead of Mid-American Conference Championships
ANN ARBOR, Mich. β Central Michigan Track & Field concluded their indoor regular season on a high note at the Silverston Invitational, hosted by Michigan. As a team the Chippewas earned two top-10 program performances and won four events. Of 24 total Chippewas competing Friday afternoon, 12 posted a career best.
Headlining the Chippewas performance were Maya Guikema and Lois Creasey, who each found a spot among the top-10 best performances in program history in the 800m. Guikema marked the third best time in Chippewa history of 2:10.36 for third in the event, while Creasey finished in 2:12.95 for ninth all-time and fifth in the meet. Jessie Gibbins rounded out the 800m squad, taking sixth behind Creasey at 2:13.86 for a career best of her own.
Linnearia Richards took home first place in two events, the long jump and the 60m hurdles. Richards marked a new career best of 5.70m in the long jump good for first place. Additionally, she took the top spot in both the preliminary and final events of the 60m hurdles, with a 8.63 second preliminary time and an 8.64 second finals performance.
Victoria Merrick took first place with a personal best of 17.74m in the weight throw, improving her best by just over half a meter and winning the event by over a meter.

Creasey, Guikema, Jessie Gibbins and Eva Thompson posted a 4:00.72 finish in the 4x400m relay for first overall.
Robyn Watts and Libby Munderloh each earned a career best in the 400m and took second and third place in the process. Watts crossed at 56.89 seconds, while Munderloh followed close behind at 57.14 seconds.
In the 200m, Dior Newson and Ella Sweatt each posted a personal best. Sweatt finished in 25.4 seconds for fifth place, while Newson took 10th in 26.03 seconds. Andrea Merin took seventh at 25.48 seconds.
Jayda Watson and Ciara Rosenzweig joined Richards in the 60m hurdles finals. Watson finished third overall with a 8.91 second finish, a hundredth of a second better than her preliminary run. Rosenzweig took eighth in both the preliminary and finals, with a 9.55 second finish preceding her 9.47 second final showing.
Kaitlynn Rush was the lone qualifier in the 60m dash. She took seventh in the preliminary race and finished in 7.85 seconds in the finals for eighth overall.
Two distance runners improved their career best in the mile, with Thompson and Emma Janesak taking fourth and eighth overall, respectively. Thompson improved her best by nearly three seconds with a 4:56.85 finish, while Janesak crossed at 5:02.98.
Hailey Hill posted a personal best in the long jump, with a best jump of 5.34m she took sixth overall.
In the shotput Emily McLean and Ereka Risner took fourth and eighth, with bests of 13.82m and 12.87m, respectively.
Emma Netzel, Ava Teed, and Nikki Carothers ended the individual running events for the Chippewas with the 3000m. The trio took fourth, fifth, and sixth place with Netzel leading the way at 10:26.82, Teed following at 10:38.41, and Carothers rounding out the pack at 10:56.14.
Chippewa Track & Field will return to action at the Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. Central Michigan will be hosting the event in Mount Pleasant at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track.
