Krzciok provides CMU highlight with 2-run homer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville hit three home runs, two of them during a nine-run fifth inning, in handing Central Michigan a 16-2 loss in the opener of a three-game nonconference baseball series on Friday at the Cardinals' Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Chippewas (5-3) and Cardinals (5-4) are scheduled to play the second game of their series on Saturday and the finale on Sunday. Both carry a 1 p.m. start.
Central Michigan used six pitchers in Friday's game, which was called on the run rule after 6 ½ innings. Starter Hayden Bailey (0-2) went just 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Jared Hanson, Jack Potteiger, Gavin Moczydlowsky, Cameron Niehaus and Jack Griffiths worked in relief.
The Chippewas got their runs on Brady Krzciok's two-run homer in the sixth inning.
Krzciok, who also doubled, accounted for two of CMU's five hits. His homer was his second of the season.
Tague Davis homered as Louisville seized a 3-0 lead after one inning, and then Alex Alicea and Lucas Moore both homered in the fifth.
Louisville added three more runs in the sixth inning.
Cardinal starter Ethan Eberle allowed two runs on five hits, struck out nine and walked three over 5 2/3 innings for the win.
