Softball Defeats Siena, Falls to St. John’s in 10-Inning Battle

Central Michigan Softball rallies to take down Siena and then drops an extra-inning battle to St. John’s in day two of the Charleston Invitational.
The Chippewas have tallied 10+ hits in three of the first four games of the season, with the game against George Mason being the outlier, with nine hits as a team.
Central Michigan will close out the tournament against the College of Charleston at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Game 1
The game with the Saints was scoreless until the fourth inning when a Saint hit a home run in the fourth inning to take the 1-0 lead.
Central Michigan responded in the sixth inning when the Chippewas scored five runs, taking a 5-1 lead. The Chippewas added their final run in the top of the seventh, and Siena scored one more in the bottom of the final inning.
London Williams was responsible for the first two runs on the board when she hit the first home run of the 2026 season. Grace Koenig scored on the four bagger, giving CMU the 2-1 tilt.
Rachel Cairo also doubled in the sixth inning that scored Jenna Kuzara, 3-1 Chippewas. A sacrifice fly from Cierra Laska in the same inning scored Cairo and the Chippewas were up 4-1.
The fifth run came when Emma Lotus reached on a fielder's choice to score Ashley Bila who entered as a pinch runner. Cairo was responsible for the final Chippewa run of the game with another double to score Kuzara once again.
Siena's final run was scored came on behalf of a fielding error by Cairo at shortstop.
Mackenzie Langan collected her second win in as many appearances in the game with the Saints, and Laska charted the first save of the season in the outing.
Game 2
The Chippewa team showed a ton of grit in the game with the Red Storm in the second game of the day, battling back from a 0-3 deficit and then ultimately falling in the 10th inning.
The Chippewas trotted freshman pitcher Aubrey Strelow out for the start in the game with Saint John's – her first career start.
Strelow surrendered three runs to the Red Storm in the second inning before being relieved by Brooklyn Compau.
The Chippewas scored a run in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI from Tori Briggs to score London Williams. Compau took the circle in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The game was then scoreless until the top of the seventh, when the Chippewas used their final chance to tie the game at three. The tying run was Angela Petrovitch who scored along with Ashley Bila after Grace Koenig hit a ball off the shoulder of the Red Storm first baseman.
At the start of the eighth inning, Jenna Kuzara started on second base for Central Michigan as the game continued in international tie-breaker format.
Kuzara was plated by the very first batter of the inning, Rachel Cairo, when she singled up the middle and the Chippewas had a 4-3 lead.
The Red Storm tied the game at four in the bottom of the inning, and the Chippewas sent Lotus to second base to start the ninth inning.
Lotus advanced to third via base hit by London Williams and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Jenna Kuzara, 5-4 CMU.
In the bottom of the ninth, Saint John's scored on a sacrifice fly of their own to knot the game at five.
Laska entered in the bottom of the ninth inning in relief for Compau and struck out the final batter of the ninth sending the game to the tenth inning.
In the 10th, the Chippewas scored their sixth and final run via infield base hit from Angela Petrovitch, and Cairo crossed the plate. Saint John's scored two more in the bottom of the 10th and walked the game off.
Laska took the loss in the circle for Central Michigan.
