Chippewas go to Notre Dame on Tuesday; entertain Toledo next weekend in home-opening series

KENT, Ohio – Kent State scored four runs in the seventh inning on Sunday in handing Central Michigan a 6-4 loss in the finale of a three-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Golden Flashes' Schoonover Stadium.

The Chippewas dropped all three games in the series and are 7-10, 1-5 MAC.

CMU plays at Notre Dame (11-6) in a nonleague game on Tuesday, March 17, and then entertains Toledo in its home-opening series next weekend. Kent State is 15-4, 5-1.

The Chippewas led, 3-2, when Kent State used a single and two walks to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Brody Williams delivered a two-run double to put Kent State in front, 4-3, and then Alejandro Covas hit a two-run single to make it 6-3.

Cole Prout, Bryson Webb and Harrison Bowman each homered for the Chippewas, who finished with five hits. All three homers were solo shots.

It was Bowman's team-leading sixth homer of the season, the fifth for Prout, and the fourth – and third of the series – for Webb.

Kenny Keller, who relieved starter Hayden Bailey to start the seventh inning, took the loss.

Bailey allowed two runs on five hits, walked three and struck out four over six innings. Jared Hanson, Nate Ross and Liam Stumpf also pitched in relief for the Chippewas.
