Sunday Victory Leads Softball to Series Victory at Bowling Green

Tori Briggs and Jenna Kuzara homered in Softball’s win over Bowling Green to open Mid-American Conference play.
CMU defeated BGSU 8-2 in the series finale and the Chippewas shift to 11-11 on the season while Bowling Green moves to 13-10.
The Chippewas scored in the first, second, third and fourth innings to tally their eight runs, highlighted by a five-run second.
In the first inning, the Chippewas scored via sacrifice fly off the bat of Grace Koenig to score Emma Lotus who singled up the middle.
Tori Briggs led off the second inning with a solo home run – her second of the season. Alexa Carter, who started as the catcher for Central Michigan then lined out to right field, another sacrifice fly for CMU that scored Rachel Cairo. Jenna Kuzara then ripped her 11th double of the season to score Emma Lotus and Angela Petrovitch. The final run of the inning was scored with an RBI double off the bat of Koenig once again; 6-0 CMU heading to the third.
In the third inning Angela Petrovitch singled to the second baseman for an RBI plating Cierra Laska who drew a walk to reach base.
In the fourth inning, Jenna Kuzara hit another home run, her second of the weekend – a no doubter to right field. That reached the eight-run mark for CMU as the Falcons were threatened with being run-ruled.
Bowling Green then scored two runs in the fifth via home run and RBI single, but the Chippewa pitching did not allow another run.
Mackenzie Langan took the victory for Central Michigan, her fourth of the season and second of the weekend over the Falcons. Langan threw five complete innings, struck out eight and faced 23 batters. Aubrey Strelow entered in relief in the sixth inning to face the final seven batters, fanning four.
Central Michigan will next host Ball State for the home opener at Margo Jonker Stadium. The Chippewas will take on the Cardinals at 3 p.m. on Friday and then a double header starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
