Home Runs Lead to Softball Loss at Ohio

Ohio hit six home runs against the Chippewas scoring nine of the Bobcat’s 12 runs.
Ohio scored nine of their 12 runs from home runs – however only six of the 12 runs scored by the Bobcats were earned in the game.
The Chippewas ended up falling to Ohio 7-12 in the finale shifting their record to 14-14 overall and 5-4 in MAC play while OU moves to 22-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference as well.
The Bobcats erupted for six runs in the first inning against the Chippewas – three of them via home run.
In the second inning, Alexa Carter answered for CMU with a solo home run of her own, her second of the weekend against Ohio.
Another home run off the bat of a Bobcat scored a runner on base, 8-1 Ohio.
CMU posted three runs in the third inning with an RBI single from Grace Koening to score Angela Petrovitch, an RBI fielder's choice from Rachel Cairo to score Emma Lotus, and an RBI walk for Carter that plated London Williams.
Ohio, once again, answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth moving the lead to 10-4 in favor of OU.
In the sixth, Lotus singled up the middle and scored Ashley Bila, who reached via walk in a pinch hit opportunity.
In the bottom of the inning, Ohio grabbed their 11th and 12th runs of the game, via home run.
The Chippewas did not give up, playing two in the seventh, but ultimately coming up short. Cierra Laska drew a bases loaded walk to score Williams and an RBI groundout from Bila scored Koenig.
Brooklyn Compau started the game for CMU, throwing just one inning. The Bobcats scored six runs off Compau in the first, however, none of those runs were earned after an error by the infield earlier in the inning.
Cierra Laska entered in the second inning, faced two batters, and was then relieved by Mackenzie Langan.
Langan, who started the first game of the series for CMU, faced the final 22 batters, allowing just two hits, striking out six.
CMU is slated to head to East Lansing on Tuesday, March 31 to take on the Spartans at 5 p.m.
