Kuzara, Koenig and Carter Homer, Softball Splits in Madeira, Prepares for MAC Play

Jenna Kuzara hit her third home run in four games to lead the Chippewas to a split over the Upstate Spartans
The Chippewas split with the Spartans at R.O.C. Park to end the four-game series with a loss 4-5 in the first game and a 6-5 win in the second game. CMU moves to 9-10 on the season and Upstate shifts to 15-9.
Next, CMU will open Mid-American Conference play in Bowling Green, Ohio against the Falcons. The two teams will play a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday and a double header starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Game 1
Angela Petrovitch and Jenna Kuzara both went 3-4 in the first game of the day. Kuzara tallied three BRI with a home run and a double.
The double off the bat of Kuzara scored London Williams from first base who reached on a fielder's choice. CMU took the 1-0 lead, but the Spartans tied it in the top of the second inning with a solo home run of their own.
Central Michigan scored again in the third inning, courtesy of Kuzara with a solo home run. Upstate tied the game in the top of fourth inning when a Spartan stole home. Upstate extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly: 4-2, Upstate.
A home run from Grace Koenig put CMU within one as she lead off the fifth inning and the Chippewas tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single, again off the bat of Jenna Kuzara.
The winning run came across for the Spartans in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly.
Mackenzie Langan took the start in the circle for Central Michigan and threw 4.1 innings, the senior issued four runs on eight hits, collecting three strikeouts. Aubrey Strelow entered and threw the last 2.2 innings in relief allowing just two hits and striking out two.
Game 2
Central Michigan came ready to play in the second game of the day as Jenna Kuzara, once again, hit for power for the Chippewas.
Kuzara gave CMU the early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a home run to right field plating Angela Petrovitch and Emma Lotus.
Alexa Carter, who started as the catcher for Central Michigan extended the lead in the second inning with her third home run of the season.
Upstate answered in the third inning with an RBI single.
In the sixth, an RBI single off the bat of Cierra Laska scored Ella Luegge, who pinch ran for Carter after the sophomore recorded her second hit of the day. A sacrifice fly from Hannah Tassin extended CMU's lead, 6-1, in the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh, Upstate battled and scored four runs with an RBI single, an RBI double, and an RBI single.
Cierra Laska shifted from right field to the circle to finish the game, relieving Brooklyn Compau. With CMU taking the victory, Laska secured her fourth save of the season – moving her to second most in the NCAA this season.
Compau, who took the win for Central Michigan threw 6.1 innings collecting five strikeouts over 31 batters faced.
