Softball Splits First Day of MAC Play with Strong Pitching Performances

Brooklyn Compau and Mackenzie Langan each struck out seven batters in the two games at Bowling Green.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – A day full of solid pitching led Central Michigan to a split at Bowling Green in the first day of Mid-American Conference play. The Chippewas shift to 10-11 overall and the Falcons move to 13-9. The two teams will play again on Sunday for the finale of the series.
CMU fell 0-1 in the first game and defeated Bowling Green 7-4 in the nightcap.
Game 1
A true pitching duel that ended in a walk off loss for Central Michigan was a start expected for MAC play: a gritty battle.
Mackenzie Langan threw a complete game against Bowling Green, striking out seven. Langan issued just two hits over the stretch of the seven innings with 27 batters faced.
Bowling Green walked the game off in the bottom of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to left field – an unearned run.
In the second inning, Langan struck out two batters, one looking one swinging and stranded a runner on first base.
Central Michigan threatened in the top of the second inning when London Williams led the inning off with a walk and was moved to second with a sacrifice bunt from Grace Koening. Cierra Laska reached on a fielder's choice to the second baseman, but Williams was thrown out attempting to score at the plate by the shortstop.
CMU worked 1-2-3 innings in the second a fifth innings and the Chippewas stranded five Falcons on base in the outing.
Jenna Kuzara, Grace Koening and Tori Briggs each recorded hits in the game.
Game 2
Central Michigan came out ready to score after the first game and plated three runs in the first inning.
Angela Petrovitch led the game off and reached on an error by the second baseman. Petrovitch came around to score after being advanced to second on a base hit from Emma Lotus and was plated on a throwing error that allowed London Williams to get on first base.
In a first and third situation, Jenna Kuzara scored when Williams got in a pickle for the Chippewas second run of the inning. The third run came on an RBI single from Tori Briggs, scoring Grace Koenig who roped a double to left field.
Bowling Green scored in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double and an RBI triple.
CMU scored another run in the top of the third inning with another double off the bat of Koening, scoring Kuzara for her second run of the game.
In the fourth, Cierra Laska crossed the plate when Petrovitch reached on a throwing error by the Falcons third baseman.
Bowling Green added another run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double.
Jenna Kuzara then hit her fourth home run in five games to give CMU the three-run lead that reached the final score of 7-4. Emma Lotus, who singled to lead off the inning scored on the home run.
Brooklyn Compau collected the win in the game and Cierra Laska entered in the seventh to collect her fifth save of the season and move back into position where she leads the nation in that category.
Compau struck out seven batters, faced 28 and allowed just five hits over six innings pitched. Laska struck out two of the final three outs for Central Michigan.
Koenig's first hit of the second game notched her 100th career hit as a Chippewa.
