GADSDEN, Ala. – Ella Zanatta shot a 3-over par 75 on Sunday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the opening round of the Chris Banister Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Silver Lakes Course.
The second round of the 54-hole, stroke-play event is scheduled for Monday (9:30 a.m.). The third and final round is set for Tuesday.
Zanatta is tied for 18th in the 93-player field. The Chippewas posted a 321 team total on Sunday and are in 14th place in the 16-team event.
CMU's Rachel Niskanen shot an 8-over 80 on Sunday, while teammates Brooke Morris and Zoe Dull both shot 11-over 83. Niskanen is tied for 51st, while Morris and Dull are among a group tied for 64th.
Also for the Chippewas on Sunday, Lexi Schulman and Alexis McMurray both shot 86, Lauren Davis posted an 88, and Evanka Shah carded a 93.
McMurray, Davis and Shah are playing as individuals.
Caroline McConnell of Bradley shot a 2-under 70 on Sunday and leads by one shot over Yang Tai of Indiana State.
Tennesse, which is ranked 21st nationally, leads the tournament after an opening round 291 team total. The Volunteers are 12 shots clear of second-place Indiana State.
