Chippewas' Track & Field Kick Off Weekend in Louisville

Chippewas set seven personal bests in first half of Clark Woods Invite
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Central Michigan Track & Field began competition for the weekend at Louisville's Clark Woods Invite on Thursday and Friday.
Victoria Merrick began competition in Louisville as the Chippewas' lone competitor on Thursday. In CMU's lone event of the day, hammer throw, Merrick set a personal best throw of 53.06m. The mark, achieved on her final attempt, secured fourth place in meet and ranks ninth in program history.
On Friday afternoon, Merrick competed in the shotput alongside Emily McLean and Ereka Risner. Mclean secured third with a 14.29m throw, Merrick achieved a personal best of 13.19m, and Risner rounded out the pack at 13.06m.
Five Chippewas participated in the 200m dash, four setting personal bests. Sophia Garland led the way with a 24.19-second best for 22nd overall. Andrea Merin set a best of 24.64 seconds, Ella Sweatt earned a best of 24.89, and Danica Shamion set a personal best just barely behind Sweatt of 24.90 seconds. Mireya Benjamin was the final Chippewa runner in the event, logging a 25.89-second finish.
CMU's day ended with Linnearia Richards and Libby Munderloh in the 400m hurdles. Richards earned fifth in meet with a 1:00.28 finish, and Munderloh set a personal best of 1:02.39.
Central Michigan Track and Field will return Saturday to close out the Clark Wood Invitational and for competition at Grand Valley State at the Extra Weekend meet.
