Guikema, Hoffman Find Program Record Book to Close Weekend

Guikema records program’s second-best performance in the 800m, Hoffman finds the top-10 list in the 10,000m in her first collegiate attempt
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Track & Field rounded out the Clark Wood Invitational at Louisville and the Extra Weekend Meet at Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon.
Maya Guikema highlighted the Chippewas' day by moving up to second place in the CMU history books in the 800m. She logged a 2:08.43 finish at GVSU, good for second place in the meet. Guikema was joined in the event by Lois Creasey and Jessie Gibbins. Creasey crossed at 2:14.22, while Gibbins clocked 2:16.80.
Kyah Hoffman broke into the record books in the 10,000m in her first collegiate attempt in the event. Hoffman logged a 35:11.90 finish at GVSU, good for ninth all-time, and third in meet.
"We did a fantastic job of keeping our momentum going this weekend," Central Michigan Director of Track & Field Jenny Swieton said, "We really feel like we're picking up steam as we get closer to the MAC Championships."
In Louisville, Victoria Merrick took fourth in the discus throw, recording a 47.50m best. Rounding out the field events were Jane Paddock, Riley Nielsen and Emily Yoshino in the pole vault. Yoshino set the day's high, clearing 3.67m for 13th overall.
CMU's relay team at the Clark Wood Invitational kicked things off by taking eighth in the 4x100. The team consisted of Danica Shamion, Sophia Garland, Andrea Merin, and Ella Sweatt and logged a 46.46-second finish.
Runners continued with the 400m, ran by Robyn Watts, who posted a personal best of 56.74 seconds.
In the 100m dash, Garland set the Chippewas best attempt with an 11.94-second finish for 23rd overall. Andrea Merin and Mirreya Benjamin joined Garland with 12.29 and a 12.52-second finish, respectively.
Linnearia Richards took 14th overall in the 100m-H, at 14.02 seconds, before joining the relay team to round out events in Louisville with the 4x400m. The team of Richards, Libby Munderloh, Sweatt, and Shamion took sixth place with a 3:44.87 finishing time.
Back at Grand Valley, Hailey Hill logged a 12.78-second finish in the 100m dash and took eighth in the long jump, with a best attempt of 5.23m.
Ciara Rosenzweig took 20th in the 100m-H with a 15.50-second finish, while Jada Pride took 22nd in the 400m-H with a season best 1:11.42.
Nicole Olivieri and Grace Jenkins represented the Chippewas in the 400m, posting finishes of 1:01.05 and 1:04.47, respectively.
Miranda McNeil and Mara Szuper each logged a personal best in the 1500m. Szuper logged a 4:46.01 finish for 19th place, while McNeil finished at 4:48.38 for 19th.
Eva Thompson, Olivia East, Ava Teed, and Nikki Carothers additionally competed in the 1500m. Thompson and East led the Chippewas at 4:34.58 for eighth, and 4:43.15 for 14th, respectively. Teed and Carothers rounded out the pack; Teed posted a 4:54.08 finish, while Carothers clocked 4:58.78.
Distance runners closed out the weekend for the Chippewas with the 5000m and 3000 steeple. Emma Netzel and Kate Jenkins took on the 5000, with Netzel finishing 12th in 17:43.76 and Jenkins 22nd in 17:58.47. Emma Janesak represented CMU in the 3000m steeple and finished fourth overall at 11:03.17, a season best.
