Sophomore catcher Alexa Carter and senior infielder Angela Petrovitch named Second Team All-MAC.
CLEVELAND – Central Michigan softball players Alexa Carter and Angela Petrovitch were named to the All-MAC Second Team on Wednesday morning.
Carter is a sophomore catcher for the Chippewas, while Angela Petrovich is a senior infielder who played second base in her final season as a Chippewa. Both earned the honor for the first time in their career. Winners are selected by coaches' votes on conference-only game performance.
Carter hit .356 in her first season wearing the Maroon & Gold after transferring from Purdue Fort Wayne after the program was cut following the 2025 season. She slugged .763 in MAC play with six home runs and six doubles, and finished third in the league in OPS (1.244). Late into conference play, teams started to pitch around Carter as she drew 16 walks in 23 MAC games. She scored 15 runs for CMU, and 12 of her 21 hits in MAC play were for extra bases, totaling 18 RBI.
The sophomore played behind the plate for Central Michigan, posting a perfect fielding percentage, while throwing out three runners. CMU's pitching staff led the conference in strikeouts with 177 in MAC play, 60 of which were looking.
Petrovitch served as the leadoff batter for the majority of the Chippewas' conference games during her senior season. The senior led the team in batting average for the entire season (.405) and hit .351 in conference play. Petrovitch charted a team-leading 33 hits against MAC opponents with two doubles and two triples. The speedy lefty scored 21 runs for CMU in conference play, drew five walks and struck out just four times, posting a .799 OPS.
Carter and Petrovitch both ended the regular season ranking in the top 10 in various categories. Carter's .356 average ranked her 3rd in the conference, and Petrovitch's .351 earned her the 5th highest spot. With an OPS of 1.244, Carter also earned the 3rd place rank for that category and her six home runs tied for 8th best in the MAC. The combination of doubles and home runs for Carter allowed her .766 slugging percentage to earn the 4th highest number in the conference and her 16 walks were the 5th highest.
Behind the plate, Carter is one of only three catchers in the conference to earn a 1.000 fielding percentage and the only catcher who caught every MAC game to reach the achievement.
Central Michigan will play in their 15th consecutive Mid-American Conference Tournament. The tournament is held in Akron, Ohio at Firestone Stadium.
The first game for No. 5 seeded CMU will be Wednesday afternoon at noon against No. 4 seeded Ohio. All games for the tournament are streamed on ESPN+.
