Weidman Charts Career High in Loss to Ohio

Rainey Weidman totaled 11 digs in the Saturday night matchup with the Ohio Bobcats in McGuirk Arena, surpassing her previous career high.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – CMU Volleyball dropped the second MAC matchup of the season to the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday evening in McGuirk Arena.
Sophomore Taylor Cripe led the offense with eight kills. Karla Sanchez-George followed close behind with seven from the right side.
Brytn Lyon totaled 15 assists on the night, and freshman Audrey Hackney tallied 13 of her own.
Rainey Weidman and Addison Samolinski each notched two service aces for the Chippewas. Weidman also led the team defensively with 11 digs.
At the net, freshman Brenna Storz blocked four balls solo for the Chippewas and one assisted. CMU totaled seven blocks on the night against the Bobcats.
How it happened
Central Michigan and Ohio started the second set in a point-for-point battle with the Bobcats. Ohio put together a five-point run to take a lead at 13-8 before Taylor Cripe ended the run with a kill.
After that run, the two teams battled back and forth again, but the Chippewa ultimately dropped the first set to the Bobcats, 19-25.
In the second set, CMU trailed 3-7 at one point, before working the set back to a one-point deficit, 10-11. Ohio then put together a 4-0 run to take a 17-12 lead. Central Michigan dropped set two, 20-25.
The third set, ended 19-25 again in favor of the Bobcats, giving CMU the loss in three set.
In that set, CMU trailed 1-7 and never came within five again in the set.
Central Michigan will head to Kalamazoo on October 3rd to take on the Western Michigan Broncos.
