Cripe Charts Double-Double in Mid-Week Match at Western Michigan

Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Cripe recorded her ninth career double-double against Western Michigan.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Taylor Cripe was a force for the Central Michigan Volleyball team on Tuesday night, charting a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. The achievement is the ninth time the sophomore has reached the feat in her career, and second this season.
The Chippewas dropped the match to the Broncos, 0-3, losing the sets 15-25, 18-25 and 18-25.
Cripe led the Chippewas offensively and defensively while Rainey Weidman also tallied 10 digs.
At the net, freshman Brenna Storz recorded three total blocks, along with Lilly Mullholand.
How it happened
Out of the gate, CMU faced tough service pressure from the Broncos. Western opened the game on a 5-0 run, before the Chippewas got the ball from an attack error by a Bronco.
After the sideout, CMU scored back-to-back from two attack errors on the Western side.
CMU trailed 8-2 and Taylor Cripe charted a kill to get the ball back for the Chippewas. That kill started a small rally for CMU with a 3-1 run, 6-10.
CMU brought it within two at 12-14 with a 3-0 run, started by a kill from Alexis Carper.
At the media timeout, CMU trailed 15-12.
Central Michigan stayed within two trading points back and forth with Western Michigan until a timeout from Coach Wilson as CMU trailed 15-19.
CMU fell to a 0-7 run at the end of the first set to ultimately drop it, 15-25.
The second set was tied at three to start, but Coach Wilson called a timeout trailing 4-8 after a 5-0 run by the Broncos.
Central Michigan trailed at the media timeout, 9-15.
Alexis Carper recorded the first ace of the night for CMU following a two-shoot from Brytn Lyon.
The Chippewas dropped set two 18-25.
Set three was a tight game through the first ten points, CMU being within two at 4-6.
Coach Wilson called a timeout with her team looking for a new gear, down 5-9.
The Chippewas brought it within two at the 9-11 mark in the set.
Central Michigan called its final timeout, 15-22.
CMU dropped the final set, 18-25.
Next up for the Maroon & Gold, more conference play. On Saturday, the team will travel to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan for a rematch.
The two teams played in McGuirk Arena on September 22nd for the Chippewas conference opener.
