Alex Curtis was named Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Central Michigan in July 2023 after being hired as an Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning in April 2021.
Before his employment at CMU, Curtis served as the Associate Director of Sports Performance at Valparaiso University where he oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for football, women’s basketball, and women’s tennis. Prior to Valpo, he served as an Assistant Director for Football Strength and Conditioning at Western Kentucky University and a Graduate Assistant at Morehead State University. Curtis completed graduate-level internships at The Ohio State University and The United States Military Academy.
Originally selected into the undergraduate Athletic Training program at the University of Cincinnati, he completed one year of the sports medicine practicum before transitioning into strength and conditioning. Curtis completed undergraduate-level internships at Mount Saint Joseph University and the University of Cincinnati while volunteering for Cincinnati Public Schools as the strength and conditioning coach for Hughes STEM High School.
Curtis holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Arts in Sport Management from Morehead State University, and a Master of Health Administration from Central Michigan University.
He is credentialled as a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC). Curtis is an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Through his service to non-profit organizations, Curtis exhibits professional advancement in education, human performance, and healthcare administration. He serves on the Michigan Advisory Board for the NSCA assisting state and provincial level initiatives and is recognized as an Approved Mentor by the CSCCa assisting in the development of aspiring professionals. He has co-authored research in the Strength and Performance Journal regarding NCAA athletic populations and has assisted in identifying academic-medicine partnerships through health system studies in the Mid-Michigan Region.
