Keyton Wheelock joined the Central Michigan soccer program as an assistant coach in January 2021 and was retained as the program's leadership changed hands to James DeCosemo following the 2025 season.
Working primarily with the Chippewa keepers, Wheelock coached one of the standouts in program history between the posts: Allison LaPoint '24. The Royal Oak, Mich.-native graduated second all-time with 285 career saves, the only in program history to record three of the top ten seasons in saves (2nd, t-5th and 9th) and tied for third in program history with 12 saves at nationally-ranked Texas in 2024.
Forward Jaelyn Dobrowolski was recognized as the MAC Freshman of the Year in Wheelock's first season with the program, becoming the first Chippewa since 2009 to earn the honor. Senior forward Natalie Belsito was named First Team All-MAC while senior midfielder Maria Kaschalk received second team recognition.Â
Wheelock, a Michigan native, spent the 2016-19 seasons as the head coach at Louisiana Monroe. In 2016, she was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year after leading the program to its first conference tournament appearance. She mentored goalkeeper Brooke-Lynn Scroggins, who in 2016 earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors while ranking first in the nation with 133 saves and seventh with an average of seven saves per game.
Â
Wheelock served as an assistant coach at South Alabama from 2013-15 and in 2015 earned the United Soccer Coaches South Region Mooch Myernick College Assistant Coach of the Year Award after the Jaguars finished 18-3-2 and defeated LSU in an NCAA Tournament opener.
Â
She helped lead the Jaguars to two Sun Belt Conference regular season championships and three league tournament titles. With Wheelock on the Jaguar staff, South Alabama players collected three Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Awards and two league defensive player of the year awards.
Â
Wheelock started her college coaching career at Division II Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn. She also has coached club soccer in Traverse City and in St. Paul, Minn. and holds several certifications from United Soccer Coaches.
Â
She earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in kinesiology from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. in December 2008, and her Master of Arts in education from Tusculum in December 2011.
Â
Wheelock, who hails from Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City West High School, played two years at South Dakota and then was a three-year letter winner at Concordia. She earned All-North Sun Intercollegiate Conference honorable mention in 2008.
