Welsh originally joined the Central Michigan Athletic Department as its Director of Strength and Conditioning in June 2019 and was promoted to an Associate AD position where he oversaw the entire Chippewas' strength and conditioning staff and served in that capacity for the football program. He is certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and is a USA Weightlifting – Level 1 Sports Performance Coach.
Welsh came to CMU from Delaware State, where he led the institution's strength and conditioning program for three years. While at Delaware State, Welsh worked directly with the football, men's basketball, women's volleyball, track & field, equestrian, and women's golf programs. He was honored in 2017 with the Athletic Director's Choice Award as the employee of the year and was recognized in 2018 by the Division of Student Affairs with the Quiet Champion Award.
Welsh was a part of the strength and conditioning team at Iowa from 2012-16, working directly with the football program under legendary strength coach Chris Doyle. Prior to his time with the Hawkeyes, Welsh worked as a graduate assistant at Springfield (Mass.) College from 2010-12 and at Fordham as an intern in 2010. He began his career in 2008 as the strength and conditioning coordinator at Queens College, his alma mater.
A Bronx, N.Y. native, Welsh earned his bachelor's degree with a major in family nutrition and exercise science from Queens College in 2010. He earned his masters in strength and conditioning from Springfield College in 2012.
