Career Bests Lead Women's Basketball To Win Over Miami

MOUNT PLEASANT-- Central Michigan University (6-11 overall, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) used a pair of career-best performances in beating Miami University (9-7, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) by a 75-71 count on Wednesday night in Rose Arena.
Senior Jodi Culbertson posted a career-high 25 points while sophomore Alicia Rozak had a career-best 24 points to help the Chippewas to the win. Culbertson shot six-of-11 from the field, five-of-nine from the three-point line and eight-of-eight from the charity stripe while Rozak was nine-of-12 from the floor and six-of-eight from the free throw line.
After two ties in the second half, the Chippewas took the lead for good on a Rozak free throw to make it 60-59 with 3:28 to play. Miami got as close as 65-62 with 2:12 to play but Rozak hit two free throws and Culbertson eight straight free throws to ice the victory.
Miami had held an 11-point lead (41-30) early in the second half before Culbertson hit 11 straight points for CMU to help erase the deficit.
The two teams traded baskets in the first half before the RedHawks scored the final four points of the half to take a 31-27 halftime advantage.
Also contributing to the Chippewa win were freshman Desiree Eidson who had nine points and seven rebounds and senior Shelly Woods who had eight points.
Miami had four players score in twin figures. Jamie Stewart had 16, Hollie Nelsen 15 and Jenny Martin and Heather Cusick each had 11.
The Chippewas continue their homestand on Jan. 22 against Marshall at 7 p.m.
