The future Chippewa was a member of the EuroBasket runner-up French National U16 squad in 2024
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Women's Basketball signed Jawelle Daquin (Marseille, France / Hector Berlioz) Wednesday evening, the program's first signee hailing from Europe in over a decade.
"Jawelle is an exciting addition to our program and this freshman class," Head Coach Kristin Haynie said. "Her athleticism, length, and versatility give her the ability to impact the game in so many ways; including being a three-level scorer and defending multiple positions."
Daquin joins the Chippewas after two years competing with Pôle France of Ligue Féminine 2. Before that, she was a member of the 2024 FIBA EuroBasket runner-up U16 squad of the French National Team.
"With her high ceiling and growth mindset, we're looking forward to developing her and helping her reach her full potential."
The French native joins Sarah Brown (Waco, Texas / China Spring) and Audrey Parker (Copley, Ohio / Copley) to form the freshman group for next season. Brown joined the program midway through the 2025-26 season as an early-graduate redshirt.
Daquin comes from an accomplished family of athletes. Her grandmother was on the forefront of professional basketball in the 1970s and into the 1980s as a two-time national player of the year and a standout on the French National Team. Her mother and aunt were both 15-plus-year veterans of professional basketball in Europe while her father was a team captain of the French National Men's Volleyball team, competing in the 1992 and 2004 Olympic Games.
Central Michigan Women's Basketball posted a second consecutive multi-win improvement for the first time since 2005-06 in the third season under Head Coach Kristin Haynie. The Chippewas tallied an 18-12 record overall, 12-6 in the Mid-American Conference—improvements of four and three wins, respectively.
CMU defeated a power-conference opponent for the first time since Dec. 2018 (Nov. 30 vs. Purdue), retained the Michigan MAC Trophy in sweeping in-state rivals Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan, and again was a national frontrunner in rebounding—seventh in NCAA I in rebounding margin (10.4) on the season.
