Field Hockey Posts Overtime Win Over MSU

MOUNT PLEASANT--The Central Michigan University field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with an exciting 3-2 win over Michigan State University on Tuesday afternoon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
The win improves CMU's record to 7-5 overall.
With the score tied at 2-2 going into overtime, the Chippewas wasted no time in putting the Spartans away as Krystal Yee (Victoria, British Columbia/Fr.) scored on a break away to end the game just 40 seconds into the extra period.
Michigan State got on the scoreboard first when Cynthia Martin scored with 20:45 left in the opening half.
CMU tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Meg Lewis (Pittsford, NY/So.) with 13:44 left in the game. MSU took a 2-1 lead with a goal by Bridget Cooper with just two minutes to play in the contest.
The Chippewas sent the game into ovetime with a goal from Tarah Trottier (Kitchener, Ontario/Fr.) with just three seconds to go.
Chippewa goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, NY/So.) made five saves in the win.
The Chippewas host Ball State on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday.
