EAST LANSING--Michigan State spoiled Ina Nicosia's debut as Central Michigan's interim head coach with an 81-52 win over the Chippewas on Wednesday night at the Breslin Center.
Central Michigan falls to 2-7 with the loss while the Spartans improve to 6-5.
Nicosia was making her first appearance as CMU's interim head coach following Fran Voll's resignation on Monday.
The game was close in the early going with the Chippewas holding a 13-12 lead when Tara Petrie nailed a three-point shot at the 11:39 mark.
The squads traded leads before MSU took the lead for good on a layup by Maria Recker with 8:34 to play in the opening half.
After taking the lead, the Spartans held the Chippewas to just seven points in the last eight minutes to take a 43-26 halftime advantage.
MSU kept control of the game in the second half. The Spartans didn't let CMU get any closer than 14 points in the early stages of the second stanza while building their lead to as many as 33 points.
The Spartans shot .531 (34-64) from the floor while CMU shot just .317) (19-60).
The Chippewas were led by Alicia Rozak who posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Desiree Eidson chipped in 13 points.
Leading MSU was Jennifer Callier with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Abby Salcheider and Candice Jackson who each scored 12 points.
CMU returns to Rose Arena on Saturday, Dec. 23, for a matchup with Oakland University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
