Named the league’s Player of the Year earlier in the day, the sophomore finished the regular season with 29 points in a Senior Day victory over Bowling Green
CLEVELAND — The Mid-American Conference announced Central Michigan Madi Morson (Canton, Mich. / Salem) as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season Tuesday afternoon, her second of the season.
Morson was named the MAC Player of the Year Tuesday morning, the fifth in program history, along with her place on the All-MAC first team.
The sophomore loaded the stat sheet in the victorious regular season finale against Bowling Green (March 4), 77-65, with 29 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Twelve of her 29 points came in the third quarter to stifle a Falcon rally attempt.
The Chippewas (18-11; 12-6 MAC) earned the league's fourth seed in the 2026 MAC Women's Basketball Tournament, will open the league postseason Wednesday afternoon against fifth-seeded Ohio (17-12; 11-7 MAC), an approximate start time of 1:30 p.m. ET.
The CMU standout led the league in scoring this season at 20 points per game, the first to average 20 for the program since Micaela Kelly's 2020-21 campaign. Morson ranks 16th in NCAA I in scoring average this season, seventh among first and second-year players.
A true three-level scorer, Morson shot 49.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from three and 84.1 percent from the free throw line across 18 conference games.
Morson is the first Chippewa and fourth player in MAC Women's Basketball history to win Freshman of the Year (2025) and Player of the Year (2026) in back-to-back seasons. Just 10 players have earned both laurels at any point in a career in MAC history.
Now a two-time All-MAC honoree with her 2025 second-team nod, Morson became the fastest player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with two games to spare, in her 56th career appearance on Feb. 18. She holds both the freshman (511) and sophomore (581) season points records and is eight points away from seventh in program history for a single season.
