Wrestlers Take 10th At Reno Tourney

RENO, NEV. - Central Michigan University's wrestling team finished 10th in the prestigious Reno Tournament of Champions here Wednesday.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State dominated the sixth annual event with 192.5 points while Arizona State was second with 120.5 and Indiana third at 111. Coach Tom Borrelli's Chippewas had 35.5 points.
Leading the way for the Chippewas was redshirt freshman Jason Mester (Mineral Point, Wis.) at 141 pounds. He was the consolation champion with a 4-1 record.
Wrestling unattached at 141, CMU sophomore Derek Phillips (Grosse Pointe/North) had a 3-2 record.
Two other Central wrestlers had winning records in the one-day event - sophomore Brett Faustman (Mason) at 197 was 2-1 and redshirt freshman Jim Kilcoyne (Portage/Central) was 2-1 wrestling unattached at heavyweight.
Freshman Mitch Hancock (Royal Oak/Catholic Central) was 2-2 at 174 pounds while redshirt freshman Kevin Carr (Warsaw, Ind./Wawasee) was 2-2 at 174 and junior Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill./Coal City) was 2-2 at heavyweight.
Also wrestling for CMU were: senior Ahmad Sanders (Flint/Northern), 0-2 at 125, sophomore Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill/Community) 0-2 at 133, redshirt freshman Ty Morgan (New Carlisle, Oh./Wayne) 1-2 at 149, sophomore Russ Clark (Holt) 0-2 at 157, redshirt freshman Dean Schuler (Delta, Oh.) unattached at 165 was 1-2 and redshirt freshman Jeff Pangborn (Durand/Corunna) was 0-1 at 184.
Central is idle until Dec. 29-30 at the Midland Tournament in Evanston, Ill.
