MOUNT PLEASANT - The basketballs will begin bouncing soon as the Central Michigan University women's basketball team begins preparation for the upcoming season. Fans can now start making plans to catch the Chippewas in action during their 13 home dates.
A pair of in-state, Big Ten rivals highlight the home schedule for 1999-2000. The Michigan State Spartans come to town on Dec. 8 followed by the Michigan Wolverines on Dec. 19.
"We have a sampling of strong teams on our schedule this season and we're excited to host our in-state sisters, Michigan State and Michigan," fourth-year coach Fran Voll said. "We'll also face Detroit, Oakland and Ferris State and those in-state rivalries are important for our fans."
The Chippewas open the season on Nov. 19 with a home date against Detroit. Other non-conference home games include Ferris State on Dec. 29 and Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Jan. 4.
Central travels to two tournament during the non-conference season -- the SMU WomenUs Basketball Classic on Nov. 26-27 and the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson on Dec. 10-11. Other non-conference road games include playing at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 4 and Oakland on Dec. 22.
CMU begins the conference season on Jan. 2 at Ohio.
