Chippewas Unveil 15-Game TV Package

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University's basketball programs will get plenty of television exposure during the 1999-00 season with no fewer than 15 games slated to be telecast live.
Included are four games as part of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) package -- the most by any conference school.
"This package is a great step towards increasing the visibility of Chippewa basketball," said CMU Athletics Director Herb Deromedi. "The fact that CMU will have the most appearances in the conference is a testament to the progress Jay Smith has made with his basketball team and the excitement surrounding the upcoming season."
CMU's TV package includes 13 games for the men -- two of which will be distributed by ESPN Plus for regional over-the-air network stations and two will be on Fox Sports Net.
"We are excited about our entire television schedule," said MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst. "We have tried to highlight our rivalry games and the Chippewas play a significant part in that. We know that Rose Arena is one of the top venues in the MAC to televise from because of the enthusiastic fans and the electricity in the arena."
Nine men's games will be carried over the CMU Television Sports Network, currently consisting of the network of CMU public broadcasting stations that reach more than 330,000 households in central and northern Michigan. Two women's games will also be carried on the CMU network.
Included in the CMU TV Network are: WPBS, Mount Pleasant, Channel 14, WCML, Alpena, Channel 6, WCMV, Cadillac, Channel 27, WCMW, Manistee, Channel 21, W46AD, Traverse City, Channel 46, and W69AV, Leland, Channel 69.
The CMU TV network is a cooperative effort among the athletics department, CMU public broadcasting and CMU's broadcast and cinematic arts (BCA) department. Students and staff from both PBS and BCA will produce the live broadcasts. Handling the play-by-play for the men's games will be Kurt Wilson, the sports director at WWTV 9/10. For the women's contests it will be Don Chiodo, WNEM-TV 5 reporter.
