Chippewas Fall To Wolverines

MOUNT PLEASANT - The University of Michigan (8-3) defeated Central Michigan University (2-6) by an 83-71 count on Sunday afternoon at Rose Arena.
The first half was back and forth with six ties and eight lead changes. Michigan's Raina Goodlow hit a layup at the end of the half to give the Wolverines a 39-36 lead at the break. Michigan shot .567 (17-30) in the first half while CMU shot .424 (14-33).
Michigan took control in the second half, going on a 14-2 run to take a 63-48 lead with 12 minutes to play. CMU's Molli Munz hit a three-pointer cut the UM lead to six points (65-59) with 7:17 to go but the Chippewas could get no closer. The Wolverines made eight free throws down the stretch to ice the victory.
UM outshot CMU, .446-.418, and outrebounded the Chippewas, 44-29.
Senior Shelly Woods led the Chippewas with 22 points. She shot nine-of-15 from the field and four-of-four from the free throw line.
Senior Jodi Culbertson and sophomore Alicia Rozak each had a career-best 17 points. Culbertson shot five-of-11 from the three point line and added a pair of free throws while Rozak was three-of-eight from the field, one-of-four from the three-point line and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Rozak and sophomore Vershaun Jones each had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Chippewas travel to Oakland on Dec. 22.
